Tuesday’s demolition of Watford made a lot of people look up. The sixth game without conceding a goal and eighteen put past their opponents in those games. Even the most pessimistic fan (me) is starting to believe in the HMS PISSTHELEAGUE thoughts of many fans
Lady Luck will obviously cast a look and blight it at some stage before the season ends but without doubt this is a superb team that surely even Lady Luck can’t stop us going up as Champions, or at the very least promoted.
This season feels so, so different from the one before. There is a togetherness that I’ve not seen since those unforgettable Bielsa season’s. Everyone works for the benefit of the team, nobody seems to sulk if they are left out of the starting X1. I understand it’s easier when you are playing well but if a ‘bump in the road’ comes and it’s Leeds so it probably will! I expect them to bounce right back from it if it happens.
Last season we seemed to rely on individual brilliance in games that were finely balanced. These are where Crysencio Summerville and Georginio came into their own. The game at Norwich City when Summerville bagged a couple of goals and the home game with Leicester City when Georginio was just ‘on it’. There were other games when the pair stood out. Unfortunately they also went missing when results turned and the back end of last season both struggled to regain their form and make any impact on games. When Leeds needed their magic in the games with Southampton at Elland Road at Wembley they weren’t to be seen. Such a shame when they both have the ability to change games, especially the one at Wembley.
So we sit top of the Championship with fifteen games to play. I’m also pretty sure the players that currently aren’t in the starting X1 will be ‘busting a gut’ to get their opportunity in a meaningful game. The cup tie needs to be forgotten as you can’t expect the same fluidity with ten changes as the relationships the current line up has built up over a period of time and it showed in abundance in the recent games with Cardiff, Coventry and Watford.
It’s a good time at the club and the owners, manager but most all the players deserve so much credit for getting to where they are.
