Returning to 1992

On Monday, Leeds completed a remarkable run of results to go 16 games unbeaten with a 3-1 victory over second placed Sheffield United. The feat matched the 1991/92 season when we were the last Champions of Division One. We were obviously managed by Howard Wilkinson, the last English manager to lift the trophy before football sold it’s soul to Sky and became the Premier League.

A lot has changed since those days of the Umbro and Evening Post shirt paraded the Barclay’s League Champions trophy around Elland Road with Strachan, Batty, McAllister, Speed et all, celebrating with a panda if I recall correctly.

The point of this article is, for me remembering that wonderful season that was and pay a tribute to the current squad in equalling that run back then. The run in 1992 was ended surprisingly by Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park by a 2-0 scoreline.

Like this season they went out of both cup competitions to them in Salford (Man U) in the Quarter Final of the League Cup and the 3rd round of the FA Cup in January. This run has also had a cup defeat, to Millwall during it.

With 12 to go, Leeds have a fantastic opportunity to emulate that fantastic squad and win a title. Lets hope that they get it done.

COME ON LEEDS!! MOT!
