Things are certainly looking good for the Whites heading into the new year fixtures...
Top of the Championship heading into our New Years day fixture v Blackburn Rovers. Two points clear, with a healthy goal difference. Is it too soon to say that this is the year?
Looking at today's match and our current form, we have got to be looking for all 3 points today at Elland Road. What ever line-up Farke has opted for recently, we have looked strong in all areas - with the exception of a number 9.
Blackburn however are no mugs, and are one team that we have had difficulties against in recent times, with them recording narrow victories against us. We have witnessed a few frustrating games in 2024 where teams come, look to hit us on the break - and if they get their goal - spend the rest of the game defending with 9 in the box. I've no doubt that they will have a similar plan in mind today.
Surely Piroe has to start this afternoon, he is by far our best option up top at the moment and he has fired in some important goals in recent matches. There have been lot's of rumours circulating that Bamford may be on the move this month, and who could blame him. He has been a great servant to the club for many years - One of Bielsa's main men and one of the last remaining players from that amazing era under the great man. In all honesty, the time is probably right to allow him a move to play regular football.
January is now here and with that lots of rumours are swirling around about who we could sign, what position we need to improve etc. Another striker has to be top of the list. Joseph is young with a lot of potential, however, this season might be too soon to expect too much. So we need someone to compete with Piroe for that starting spot. One of the best pieces of business we could do this month is to sign Rothwell up permanently - he has been like a Rolls Royce purring through our midfield, barely putting a foot wrong!
Last year we came so close to going back up, but fell so painfully short in the Final (again). We have to do it this time, and we need to put it to bed early. I genuinely think we can.
I'm sure there will be plenty of ups and downs before the end of the season - there is no other way. But one thing is for sure... I wouldn't change it for the world!
