6 to play...

It all boils down to the next six games. Middlesborough away, Preston home, Oxford away, Stoke at home, Bristol City home and finally Plymouth away. It’s strange or just a coincidence that the regular season ends on the South Coast just as it did back in 1989/90.

Back then as a member of the Keighley supporters club we’d just seen a run that included a horrible home defeat to Barnsley. I remember that night like yesterday, the Leeds keeper Marvyn Day allowed a simple goal past him meaning Newcastle United and Sheffield United saw a chance of catching us. The penultimate game was Leicester City at Elland Road. Leeds went behind to a Gary McAllister goal, but Mel Sterland equalised and with a never to be forgotten goal Gordon Strachan scored the winner.

The scenes at the final whistle were amazing, but there was one more game to play and with Sheffield United on our coat tails, we had to win to win the title on goal difference. The tall figure of Lee Chapman leaped to grab the important goal and Bournemouth may never forget or forgive the Leeds invasion that weekend.

What will we give for him, or a player of his stature to be amongst our squad as we go into these last five important games. Many have said that the players look tired, but they must see the finishing line and know if they can start these six games with a win at Middlesbrough maybe, just maybe they can go on a run that gets them over the finishing line and with it automatic promotion.

COME ON LEEDS!! MOT
